Private Lives is considered a prime example of the sophisticated comedies of Noel Coward. An overwhelming critical and commercial success when it was first produced in 1930, in 2002 it won the Tony Award and Drama Desk Award for best revival of a play. Private Lives tells the tale of Elyot and Amanda, once married to each other, now honeymooning with new spouses at the same hotel. They meet by chance, reignite the old spark and impulsively elope. After days of being reunited, they again find their fiery romance alternating between the passions of love and anger. Their aggrieved spouses appear and a dizzying display of affiliations alternate between the women sticking together, then apart and new partnerships being formed. Who will end up with whom? -- Rated PG |
